Betsy Alexanderson

Biography:

Betsy joined the Rowland Hall coaching staff in 2025. She has a BA in Spanish from the University of Oregon and an MEd from Northwest Christian University (Eugene, OR).

Betsy ran both cross country and track and field at the University of Oregon from 2007-2011. She was part of a conference championship, a top-3 team finish at NCAA DI cross country nationals, and qualified for the West Regional national qualifying meet for 5,000m two years in a row. Her high school career in Yankton, South Dakota involved both individual and team success. She won state titles in the 4x800 relay, 3200m, and cross country; a national title in cross country; two top-12 finishes at Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals; and three top-five team finishes at Nike Cross Nationals (previously Nike Team Nationals). Post-collegiately, Betsy found a new passion for trail running and competed at the US Half-marathon Trail Championships, received a top-3 finish at the Moab Red Hot 55k and finished top-3 in the Discrete Peak Trail Series.

Prior to coming to Rowland Hall, Betsy coached at Olympus High School and has trained athletes for cross country; distance and middle distance in track; shot put, discus, and javelin for field events; and even a short stint coaching sprints and hurdles. During her middle school teaching years in Oregon, she organized a local chapter of Girls on the Run for grades 6-8 and coached middle school track in Creswell and Forest Grove. Before moving to Utah with her husband, Betsy was a volunteer cross country coach at Pacific University, a DIII school in Forest Grove, Oregon. Betsy also teaches sophomore English at Olympus High School.

Betsy has coached athletes to 5A state championships and podium finishes in multiple events. She also prides herself in coaching athletes from walking 5k races to running them start to finish. As a coach, Betsy values creating community while promoting positive encouragement and long-term success through consistency, balance, and persistence in training.
