Girls Volleyball, Fall 2025

Head Coach Khiaura Silcox
Assistant Coach Lauren Daynes

What a year it has been for the Rowland Hall girls volleyball program! This season was one of change, growth, and connection, a year defined by learning, competitiveness, and the creation of a new team culture. With the addition of 19 incredible athletes and two dedicated coaches, we built something truly special together. The energy, fun, and determination our team brought to every practice and match revealed the heart and identity of what Rowland Hall volleyball is all about: teamwork, growth, and love for the game.

This year’s team was led by senior captain Greta Filippone, junior captain Chloe Vezina, and sophomore captain Nyki Younten. They stood alongside juniors Rana Rakib and Hayden Thompson; sophomores Morgan Ashby, Kailani Nguyen, and Ella Wang; freshmen Willow Arens, Maya Beach-Posso, Viviene Davis, Zoe Hone, Zoë Huang-Kim, Akemi Kawabata, Sofia Morrison, Solara Saad, Choekyi Sivupka, Inaaya Syed, and Zoya Syed. This group came to each practice and match eager to learn, work hard, and not only become stronger players, but even more extraordinary young women.

Following a preseason schedule that included varsity losses to 3A school Providence Hall, 2A school Millard, and 1A school St. Joseph, the Winged Lions faced a nervous start to their season.

League play in Region 17 brought many successes for our teams at both levels. The junior varsity squad posted a 7–10 record, demonstrating tremendous growth and improvement from the start of the season. Varsity concluded league play with a 9–5 record (finishing third in Region 17) and 13–16 overall for the regular season. Season highlights included a commanding region victory over Maeser Preparatory Academy; decisive three-set wins against Intermountain Christian School, ALA, UMA, and American Heritage; and strong performances at both the Wendover Tournament and the 1A/2A Clash Tournament in Richfield. Despite a heartbreaking five-set loss to Intermountain Christian, the team’s resilience and competitive spirit defined their journey through the season.

Our breast cancer awareness game/pink night fundraising match against Maesar Preparatory was a huge success, as our team and those who came out to support the game that night helped us raise over $1,000 for breast cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Our final overall record for the regular season earned us a 17th-place seed in the 2A division standings, of 24 total teams. This seeding placed us in an away match against South Summit. Even on a challenging night, the team worked hard to stay competitive and support one another. They were defeated in three sets (8-25, 16-25, 15-25), a humbling and heartbreaking loss that ended our 2025 season.

A huge thanks to my assistant coach and friend, Lauren Daynes. She is a dedicated, hardworking, and fun-loving individual who gives her all to the program. Lauren connects effortlessly with the team, helping players develop their skills while building strong bonds through laughter, encouragement, and high expectations.

End-of-season awards go to Varsity MVP Chloe Vezina; JV MVP Zoë Huang-Kim; Varsity Most Improved Viviene Davis; JV Most Improved Zoe Hone; Varsity Offensive Player of the Year Ella Wang; JV Offensive Player of the Year Choekyi Sivupka; Varsity Defensive Player of the Year Akemi Kawabata; and the Spirit of a Lion Award Nyki Younten and Kailani Nguyen.

Thank you to our student and faculty fans, especially our dedicated parents, as well as Director of Athletics Zack Alvidrez for their unwavering support. It truly made a difference! A huge congratulations to our entire team on a season full of hard work, fun, and growth. You are an incredible group of athletes who made this new coaching staff’s first year unforgettable. We love each of you dearly and cannot wait to see what the future holds for our Winged Lions!
