Senior Athletic Department Awards, 2022–2023

Several Winged Lion student-athletes were recognized at the recent Senior Celebration with special awards by the Athletics Department for their contributions to our programs over the past four years.

The Winged Lion Outstanding Athlete Award is given in recognition to multi-sport athletes for their high level of athletic ability, commitment, dedication, and self-motivation, as well as for positive leadership, sportsmanship, coachability, and support of their teammates over their entire high school athletic career. This year’s Outstanding Athlete recipients were Deja Shirkey (volleyball and softball) and Will Cunningham (cross country and track and field).

The Lee Scholar-Athlete Award is a gift of the S. Whitfield Lee family to athletes who have demonstrated strong leadership and athletic talent in competitive team sports and are in the top half of the class academically. Arden Louchheim (golf), Maile Fukushima (soccer), Jaiden Handlon (tennis and basketball), and Jack Vitek (golf and soccer) were recognized with this award.

The Lionhearted Award is given to outstanding senior athletes who, during their athletic careers, displayed a high level of dedication to their teams, demonstrated a strong work ethic and coachability, and competed with the heart of a lion each and every day.  Recipients of this recognition this year are Liam Boyle (swimming), Luca Bressloff (tennis), Kai Dowdle (basketball), Charlie Frech (soccer), Zach Klein (tennis), Anthony Sanchez (soccer), Kate Altman (tennis), Elisabeth Bocock (soccer), Alivia Boe (tennis), Heidi Paisley (basketball), Aileen Robles (softball), and Jordyn VanOrman (volleyball).

Congratulations to these seniors and to all seniors who competed for the green and white these past four years, as they have helped lead their teams to 24 region and 10 state titles, and have led our athletics program to top-five finishes in the Deseret News All-Sports awards each year of their careers. Many have earned All-Region and/or All-State honors, and many received recognition as Academic All-Region and/or Academic All-State student-athletes. Four seniors have committed to competing in their sport at the college level. You leave a legacy of excellence, and you will be much missed!
