The 2024–2025 high school swim season was historic, as Rowland Hall’s Winged Lions took to the water with an unwavering sense of team spirit and purpose. This culminated in a monumental success: our girls team of five claimed the 2A state championship!
Throughout the season, our swimmers competed fearlessly, head-to-head with much larger swimming programs from across the state. Despite facing larger numbers, our Winged Lions stood tall through the season. Rowland Hall athletes trained with purpose and competed with passion. Our swimmers proved that discipline, unity, and belief in one another go a long way.
Through in-season meets, invitationals, and region and state championships, our team of 10 athletes was driven and dedicated, both to their sport and to each other. The pinnacle of our season came at the 2A/3A state championships, where Rowland Hall made a statement with huge individual and relay performances.
Our girls medley relay team of Sarah Gibbons, Cecelia Hyman, Ainsley Moore, and Lily Schiffman delivered a powerful first swim: the fastest 2A 200 medley relay at the meet, earning eighth place in the combined meet. Senior and captain Ainsley Moore continued her standout season by making the B final in the 200 freestyle and storming into the A final of the 100 breaststroke, dropping a personal best of 1:18.98, the second-fastest 100 breast of all 2A girls athletes.
On the boys’ side, senior captain and four-time varsity athlete Henry Erickson held his own, qualifying for the B final of the 100 backstroke with a strong swim against a competitive field. He also made waves this season with huge personal records in the 50 free and 100 free. Junior Cecelia Hyman brought home a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke A final, showcasing her technique and competitive fire as the fastest 2A girl backstroker at the meet.
Sophomore Lily Schiffman delivered two exceptional individual races and scored the most points of any Rowland Hall athlete at the meet, placing fourth in the 500 freestyle and in the 100 butterfly, once again proving her ability to shine in grueling events. Lily’s swim in the 500 was the fastest of any 2A girl at the combined championship, and her 100 fly was the second fastest of 2A girl athletes.
The season wrapped up with a thrilling team performance in the girls 400 freestyle relay, where Sarah Gibbons, Cecelia Hyman, Captain Ainsley Moore, and Lily Schiffman combined forces to win the B final with a new season-best time, putting a ribbon on top of an amazing championship season.
This year’s team brought unmatched character, resilience, and a deep love for the sport each and every step along the way. Every swimmer gave their all, through practices, in the classroom, and their actions off of the pool deck. The coaching staff could not be prouder of the leadership, grit, and team-first mindset that defined this season.
Congratulations to all of our swimmers on an unforgettable year. Go “Finned” Lions!
