Track and Field, Spring 2025

Head Coach Mark Oftedal

It was exciting to have so many newcomers to this year’s track team. Like the cross country team in the fall, most of our team members were from the ninth grade. Jia Anyan, Brooke Greenberg, Miles Kiburtz, Hector Licea Morales, Leah Middleton, Henley Pritchett, and Songtsen Sok-Choekore, all ninth graders, traded in the rough and hilly grass surfaces of cross country running for the level and laned oval of the track. These seven were joined by fellow class of 2028 newcomers Mina Bailey, Nate Brown, Owen DoniganLuke Gagan, Allie Loewen, Wesley Mahan, Brooke Wright, and Nicole Wright, who made up nearly half of our team of 33. Returning to the team this season were seniors Carolina Corcoran, Kendall Kanarowski, and Jamo Oleksy, along with juniors Rylee Boyd, Joe Cashiola, Sophia Hijjawi, Cecelia Hyman, Dylan Johnson de Lacy, and Amelie Tan, and sophomores Arianna Ali, Bronwyn Andrus, Jimmy Cashiola, Paulina Ize-Cedillo, HaUhn Kim, and Ollie Wakefield. And, better late than never, joining the team for the first time this year were junior Clarita Solis and sophomores Adrian Marquart and Beck Sidlow.

Our newcomers quickly found, and joined wholeheartedly, the event groups they connected with the most. Whether sprinting, jumping, throwing, or middle-distance, I was impressed with their dedication and efforts over the course of the season, and they remained committed to their first choices throughout.

This season the Utah High School Activities Association chose our 2A classification as the test classification for trying out the new system for advancement to state for the years ahead. In the past, the top-four finishers in each event at our region championship advanced to state, along with those student-athletes who reached the qualifying standard in their event(s) during the season. In spite of this higher bar to advance to the state meet, our relatively young team’s performances met and exceeded many of the qualifying standards. Rowland Hall track was represented in the sprints, middle-distance, throws, jumps, and relays.

Following are the results of our track and field season. These are only the numbers. The real successes will live on in our team members—in the persistence, resolve, and compassion exhibited going forward, fueled by lessons learned during the ups and downs of a single season, where each gave their best efforts at something they cared about in the spring of 2025.
