Each sports season, the Region 17 Board of Managers recognizes with Academic All-Region honors those seniors who meet the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) academic award standards for non-weighted GPA and ACT or SAT scores. Three winter sports athletes were so recognized: girls basketball player Bea Wall and swimmers Sophie Zheng and Thomas Shakib.
The UHSAA also recognizes excellence in the classroom with the designation of Academic All-State status, awarded to senior student-athletes who are regular starters or performers for their varsity teams and who have a non-weighted, cumulative GPA of 4.0, or who meet a new index that they have developed based on non-weighted GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Bea Wall, Sophie Zheng, and Thomas Shakib all met the established criteria and earned prestigious UHSAA Academic All-State status for their respective sports.
Congratulations to these Winged Lions on achieving excellence not only in the competitive athletics arena, but also in the classroom.
