Winged Lion stand-out soccer athlete Zakrie Smith was recently recognized at our second annual senior athlete ceremonial college signing assembly, as she has committed to play soccer at Occidental College this fall.
Zakrie has been a four-year impact player on our girls soccer team. Her talent helped lead our team to two region titles, three state 2A championships, and a runner-up trophy. Zakrie’s work ethic and competitive spirit helped drive others to strive for their best because she always did. Formidable in size, strength, and talent, fans watched in awe as Zakrie dribbled through a gauntlet of defenders to put the ball in the back of the net, or outmaneuvered an opponent to send a pass to a teammate who nailed the shot, or tackled the ball away to give our team another chance to score. Zakrie could and did do it all. She earned All-Region and All-State recognition each season, was named the State 2A Player of the Year by the Deseret News in 2022, as well as our Team MVP that season. She also earned the team’s Lionhearted Award this year.
Zakrie has brought many thrilling moments to ROHO fans and leaves behind a legacy of talent and excellence that will be hard to replace. Congratulations to her and best wishes to her for a successful college soccer career wearing the black and orange of the Occidental Tigers!
